Write.md keeps the document plain and lets you rebuild the room around it. It is a free, open-source Markdown editor for macOS that opens and saves the ordinary .md, .markdown and .txt files already sitting on your disk. Font, size, line height, content width, text and background and accent and border colors, window opacity, glass effects, visible borders, unified or separated window regions, even image and video backgrounds are all yours to set, then save under a name as an appearance profile you switch by hand. No theme pack comes bundled, and the example setups on show were built with those same controls.
Vim modal editing and US English spelling and basic style suggestions are optional toggles, and the corrections are computed locally with no AI service and no account. Three views cover the unified editor, the rendered preview and a split, while the status bar tracks file name, word count, reading time, correction count and Vim mode. The source is Apache 2.0, current public builds run on Apple silicon, and there is no account, telemetry or analytics anywhere in it.
