Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool. It lives in the terminal, reads the codebase it is pointed at, and takes instructions in plain language: run a routine task, explain a stretch of code, work through a git operation. The same tool is available inside an IDE, and tagging @claude on GitHub reaches it there.
Installation is a shell script on macOS and Linux or a PowerShell command on Windows, with Homebrew and WinGet packages alongside; the npm package is marked deprecated. Several plugins that add custom commands and agents are in the same repository.
