Free copies of China's official school textbooks were already online, yet ordinary people had trouble reaching them, and sellers were reposting watermarked scans for money. ChinaTextbook is the maintainer's answer: one open repository holding the PDFs outright.

It covers primary school, junior high, senior high and university material, sorted by stage and subject, with the five-four school system editions kept separately. The senior high folder alone runs through Chinese, maths, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, politics, English, Japanese, Russian, information technology, general technology, art, music and PE. The stated aim is to spread compulsory education and narrow the gap between regions, and Chinese families abroad use it to keep their children on the curriculum back home. Since GitHub rejects files over 100MB, any PDF above 50MB is split into 35MB parts, and a bundled mergePDFs executable rejoins them when you run it inside the same folder. The archive has passed 77,000 stars.
