Someone bought a Nikon F100 sold for parts, found that an internal cleaning was all it actually needed, and made a great deal of extra work for themselves getting there. These notes are what they wish they had known first. The official repair manual and parts list turn out to be necessary but not sufficient, terse and narrow in scope, and the copies circulating online are poor scans, so the writeup points at the disassembly photographs that filled the gaps. Most of it is hard-won detail. Screws look near-identical and almost none are interchangeable, so sort them by their names from the manual over a magnetic mat rather than a pill tray that will get knocked over. Isopropyl alcohol makes the polycarbonate body brittle and acetone turns it to mush on contact. Forcing a part when you should have taken a break is where the damage that is difficult to repair comes from. MIT licensed, and worth reading before buying a for-parts body, since many have already had essential components gutted.
